After breakfast we drive to kidike Flying Fox Forest to watch the friendly bates of Pemba – Gigantic fruit bates indigenous to Pemba Island which gives visitors a great opportunity to see these creatures up close. Gathering in mixed-sex groups of up to 850 individuals to roost, the Pemba flying fox creates quite a spectacle. These are the Africa’s largest bat species, a type of fruit bat with a wing span of up to 70cm and can weigh in at around half a kilo. From here we drive directly to Ngezi Rain Forest. The forest is covering an area of 3,600 acres, mostly comprising primary forest. Mjoho is the most common tree species of Ngezi's moist forest. Its canopy can be up to 35 meters above the ground. Another common specie in Ngezi is Mgulele, its broad crown of which can grow up to 45 meters. There are also monkeys, bush babies, fruit bats, different kinds of birds, flowers, spices and natural lakes. If you are interested, we can take some more time with you visiting the "cultural areas " these are parts of the forest which are sacred and people periodically sweep and clean to appease their ancestors. These sacred places called "MIZIMU" are used for prayers, requests and offerings to the spirits of the dead. Finally, from here we can either drive to Manta for lunch or Vumawimbi Beach for picnic lunch and leisure. Vumawimbi is the longest beach in East Africa and one of the best places to relax, soak up the sun and take a break from some busy sightseeing. In the late afternoon we drive back to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay on bed and breakfast basis.
Tour Duration: Full Day. Meal Plan: Picnic Lunch at 12h30. Accommodation: Misali Sunset Beach
At 08h00 after breakfast we drive to Wesha where we will take our boat to Misali island. This island is world famous for it’s corals and nature. The island offers idyllic beaches and nature trails. Misali’s treasure is its rich ecosystem which boasts 42 types of corals, over 300 species of fish, a rare subspecies of vervet monkeys, rarely seen coconut crabs and a nesting site for green and hawksbill turtles. Snorkeling here is breath-taking! Even close to the beach it’s possible to see bigger fishes. Unlike most places in Pemba, the tides make no difference to these activities. Among the locals, Misali has religious status as they believe the prophet Hadhara used the island as his prayer mat. The strong Islamic environmental maintenance ethic is used to support management and environment education, and the island is a 'sacred gift' to the earth from the Islamic faith as part of an ecumenical Millennium celebration arranged by the World Wildlife Fund in Nepal in November 2000. After the tour we take lunch and relax until late afternoon when we drive back to the hotel for leisure, dinner and stay overnight on bed and breakfast basis.
