Ruaha National Park

The Best Time to visit Ruaha is during the dry season from June to October. During this period, wildlife congregates around the park’s water sources, making it easier to spot animals. The dry weather also makes for more comfortable safari conditions and better visibility. The wet season (November to April) brings lush greenery and offers a quieter experience with fewer visitors, though some roads may become difficult to navigate, and wildlife is more dispersed as water is plentiful. For birdwatchers, the wet season is an excellent time, as migratory birds flock to the park.

  • Elephants: Ruaha is home to one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa, often seen near the riverbanks.
  • Lions: The park boasts a significant number of lions, known for their large prides.
  • Leopards: These elusive cats are often spotted lounging in trees or stalking prey.
  • Cheetahs: Found in the open plains, cheetahs can often be seen chasing down antelope.
  • Buffalo: Large herds of buffalo roam the park, particularly near water sources.
  • Giraffes: The park is known for its high concentration of giraffes.
  • Birdwatcher’s Haven – With over 570 species, Ruaha offers an incredible mix of East and Southern African birds in untouched wild landscapes.
  • Vibrant Rollers and Bee-Eaters: Lilac-breasted rollers and carmine bee-eaters add bursts of colour as they swoop across the savannah.
  • Powerful Raptors: Bateleurs and martial eagles soar above, showcasing strength and grace.
  • Colourful Stars of the Bush: Paradise flycatchers and other bright species light up the landscape.
  • Riverbank Riches – Along the Ruaha River, herons, storks, and kingfishers thrive, offering perfect photography moments.
